GB/T 7179-2025 is the English-translated version of 铁路运输词汇 货物运输.
GB/T 7179-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the vocabulary of rail freight - the consignment and the waybill, the wagon types and their loading, the marshalling and the train formation, the tariffs and the terms of a claim. It replaces GB/T 7179-1997, a vocabulary twenty-eight years old, under the National Railway Administration. It was issued on 31 December 2025 and has been in force since 1 July 2026, replacing GB/T 7179-1997. The document is under the responsibility of the National Railway Administration. Foreword
This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part
1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting. This document replaces GB/T 7179-1997 "Railway Freight Terminology". Compared with GB/T 7179-1997, the main differences are structural adjustments and editorial changes. Aside from the modifications, the main technical changes are as follows:
a) The "Freight Equipment" section has been modified, changing "Freight Equipment" to "Freight Infrastructure"; the sections on LTL freight organization stations and LTL freight centers have been deleted. Terminology and definitions related to transfer stations have been added; terms such as trackless stations, comprehensive freight yards, specialized freight yards, freight metering and safety inspection equipment, and sealing have also been introduced. Terms and definitions related to locks, moisture-sensitive goods, and transport packaging (see Chapter 3,.1997 edition);
b) The "Freight Transportation Planning and Freight Operation Organization" section has been changed to "Freight Demands". The sections "Request and Planning," "Freight Organization," "Freight Prices," and "Freight Indicators" have been removed; sections on freight bills, freight accidents, fire accidents, and theft accidents have also been removed. Loss incidents, damage incidents, spoilage incidents, pollution incidents, other incidents, freight accident classification, freight accident reporting and compensation Terms and definitions were added, including those for cargo loss, railway insured transport, overdue delivery of goods, penalties for overdue delivery, and freight car relocation. Terms and definitions such as "single," "incoming goods," "internal delivery," and "external delivery" (see Chapters 4, 5, 6, and 7,.1997 edition) Chapter 4);
c) A section on "Cargo Loading and Unloading" has been added; terms and definitions for loading, unloading, and repositioning operations have been added (see Chapter 8);
d) Added a "Cargo Loading and Reinforcement" section; added information on cargo center of gravity height, heavy vehicle center of gravity height, overload, off-center loading, unbalanced load, concentrated load, and cargo reinforcement. Solid-state terms and their definitions (see Chapter 9);
e) A section on "Containerized Transportation" has been added; terms and definitions for containerized transportation, containers, and container equipment have been added (see Chapter 10);
f) A "Special Cargo Transportation" section has been added; the sections on bulky cargo transportation, dangerous goods transportation, and perishable goods transportation have been combined. And moved to the special cargo transportation section; removed items such as large cargo, explosives, corrosion, decay, radioactivity, average temperature, moisture content, and phase. The terms and definitions for humidity, spoilage, etc., have been revised; terms and definitions for overweight cargo and cold chain transportation, etc., have been added (see Chapter 11). (Chapters 5, 6, and 7 of the.1997 edition)
g) Expanded international rail freight transport to combined transport; deleted terms and definitions such as freight handover document and vehicle handover document; added... The terms and definitions of international intermodal transport bill of lading, China-Europe freight train, combined transport, through transport, connecting transport, and multimodal transport are explained (see [link]). This document defines freight infrastructure, freight demand and planning, freight organization, freight pricing, freight indicators, cargo handling, and cargo loading and unloading. Terms and definitions related to fixed cargo transportation, containerized transportation, special cargo transportation, and combined transportation. This document applies to the production, management, design, scientific research, teaching, and publication of documents related to railway freight transportation.

3 Freight Infrastructure
3.1 freight station A station that specializes in or primarily handles freight operations.
Note. This includes stations that handle the transportation, loading and unloading, delivery, transshipment, and transshipment of goods, or stations that serve dedicated lines or dedicated railway operations.
3.1.1 A station that handles freight operations and dedicated line operations for multiple types or categories of goods.
Note. They are generally located in large cities, industrial areas, or ports, where large quantities of goods are loaded and unloaded, and have large cargo yards.
3.1.2 A station that only handles freight transportation of a single type of transport or a single category of goods.
Note. This applies to stations handling bulk commodities such as coal, ore, petroleum, timber, and grain, as well as stations handling dangerous goods.
3.1.3 portstation It primarily serves the port and can also handle the handling of intermodal freight transport between railways and waterways.
3.1.4 Frontier Station A station that handles international rail transport and rolling stock transfer operations from one country to another via the border.
3.1.5 Transshipment Station The station where the changing of clothes is carried out.
3.1.6 trackless station Railway logistics operation and service outlets established in cargo distribution centers outside of railway station business premises.
