Scope
GB/T 6996-2012 is the English-translated version of 透射式电视测试图.
GB/T 6996-2012 specifies the classification and use of test charts of transparencies for television together with the pattern specifications, the size requirements and the optical density.
Clause 1 applies the standard to the production and the application of such test charts and prints no exclusion.
Clause 4 divides the subject into six kinds of test pattern, the comprehensive test chart, the high-frequency test chart, the afterimage test chart, the checkerboard test pattern, the regional test chart and the grayscale test chart, each sent to its own normative annex from Appendix A to Appendix F, and 4.2 states that they suit a PAL standard TV camera system.
Clause 5 opens on dimensions, where 5.1.1 fixes the size of the black and white borders of the manufactured chart, but the draft stops at the first size listed and the clause cannot be reported beyond that point.
The rest of the structure, taken from the table of contents, is clause 2 on normative references, clause 3 on terms, definitions and symbols, clause 6 giving a table of optical density D and transmittance T, and an informative Annex G repeating that table, which the foreword says was carried over from Appendix A of GB/T 6996.14-1986.
Clause 3 adopts the terms, definitions and symbols established in GB 3102.6, GB/T 4597 and GB/T 7400.1 to GB/T 7400.12, the same documents that clause 2 cites.
The foreword records that the standard was proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, that it adds an afterimage test pattern for transparencies for television, that it drops a number of the 1986 parts, and that the requirements on the black and white rectangular frame size and on the positioning triangle, formerly repeated in each part, are now stated once as a general requirement with the specific requirements left to the annexes.
It replaces GB/T 6996.1-1986 to GB/T 6996.14-1986. The frontispiece squeezes both dates onto one line, "Issued on.
2013-02-15 2012-11-05 implementation", in the inverted order that would otherwise put implementation before issue; the standard was announced in National Standards Bulletin 2012 No. 28, so the line is read as issued on 2012-11-05 and applied since 2013-02-15.
