Scope
GB/T 6400-2007 is the English-translated version of 金属材料 线材和铆钉剪切试验方法.
GB/T 6400-2007 sets the principle, the definitions, the symbols and their descriptions, the test piece and the measurement of its dimensions, the test equipment, the determination of the property and the test report for the double shear test of metal wires and rivets.
Clause 1 applies it to determining the shear strength of metal wires and rivets from room temperature up to 700 degrees C, with a diameter of not more than 6 mm, or not more than 10 mm for materials of low shear strength.
Clause 3 states the principle, namely that shear strength is determined from the shear stress at which the test piece breaks, and clause 4 defines shear strength, written tau b, as the maximum shear stress a material can withstand, obtained by dividing the maximum force reached in the shear test by the sheared area of the test piece.
Clause 5 collects the symbols in Table 1, with Fm for the maximum test force in N and tau b for shear strength in MPa, and notes that 1 MPa equals 1 N/mm2.
The normative references are GB/T 4338 on the tensile testing of metallic materials at high temperature, GB/T 8170 on rules of rounding off for numerical values and GB/T 16825.1 on the verification of the force measuring system of static uniaxial testing machines; Appendices A and B are informative.
The changes listed against the previous edition show what was reworked: the title of the standard, a wider temperature range of application, the addition of the normative references clause and of the principle clause, the designation of high temperature shear strength moved from a superscript to a subscript, a lower machining roughness for the test piece, the removal of the rule on rounding off limit values, the addition of a stated room temperature range, and corrections to the dimensions in the former Figures A2, A4 and A5.
The standard was proposed by the China Iron and Steel Association, is administered by the National Technical Committee on Steel Standardization and was drafted by the Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials, the Beijing General Research Institute for Nonferrous Metals, the metallurgical industry information and standards institute and Shanghai Electric Magnetic Equipment.
It replaces GB/T 6400-1986, which covered the high temperature shear test method for metal wires and rivets, was issued on 2007-09-11 and has applied since 2008-02-01.

Foreword
This standard replaces GB/T 6400-1986 "high temperature shear test method for metal wires and rivets." This standard compared with GB/T 6400-1986, changes are as follows.
1) Modify the standard name;
2) expand the scope of application of temperature;
3) an increase in Chapter 2, normative references and principles Chapter 3;
4) The temperature shear strength identified by a superscript to subscript;
5) reduce the roughness of the processing of the sample;
6) abolished the limit values are not rounding rules;
7) increased by a predetermined room temperature range;
8) to correct the original A2, Figure A4, A5 in size in FIG. The Standard Annexes A and B are informative appendices. The standard proposed by China Iron and Steel Association.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the principles of metal wire and rivet double shear test, definitions, symbols and instructions, the sample and its measurement, test set Equipment, performance measurement and test report.
This standard applies to the determination of room temperature to 700 °C, diameter of not more than 6mm (low shear strength of the material is not more than 10mm) metal Shear strength of wire and rivet.
