Scope
GB/T 6383-2024 is the English-translated version of 空蚀试验方法.
GB/T 6383-2024 is the Chinese national method for testing how materials stand up to cavitation erosion. Clause 1 covers the test equipment, specimen preparation, test conditions, test procedure, data processing and the test report, and it works with three kinds of apparatus: vibratory cavitation, rotating-disc cavitation and jet cavitation.
It applies to cavitation tests that evaluate the cavitation damage metallic materials suffer in fluid media and their resistance to it, and clause 1 adds that other materials subject to cavitation from liquid impact may use it for reference.
Terms it defines include cavitation erosion, cavitation rate, cumulative cavitation, incubation time and maximum cavitation rate; among the standards it quotes are GB/T 10123 and GB/T 16545.
It replaces GB/T 6383-2009, was issued on 15 March 2024 and has applied since 1 April 2025.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1: Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 6383-2009 "Vibration Cavitation Test Method". Compared with GB/T 6383-2009, except for the structural adjustment and compilation In addition to logical changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) Added the temperature control requirements for vibration cavitation test equipment (see 4.1.8);
b) Added the rotating disk cavitation test device and jet cavitation test device and their technical requirements (see 4.2 and 4.3);
c) Added test specimen processing accuracy requirements (see 5.1);
d) Added the specifications, dimensions and requirements for rotating disk cavitation test specimens and jet cavitation test specimens (see 5.2 and 5.3);
e) The temperature requirements in the test conditions have been changed (see 6.1.2, Chapter 6 of the 2009 edition);
f) Added optional test condition parameters (see 6.2);
g) The requirement to conduct a simulated vibration test before the test has been deleted (see 7.2 of the 2009 edition);
h) Added test time requirements (see 7.6);
i) Added parameter processing methods such as maximum cavitation rate and nominal incubation time (see 8.4).
1 Scope
This document specifies the test equipment, specimen preparation, test conditions, test procedures, data processing and test report for cavitation test.
This document is applicable to material cavitation tests using test devices such as vibration cavitation, rotating disk cavitation and jet cavitation, which are used to evaluate the performance of metal materials.
The damage caused by cavitation in fluid media and its cavitation resistance can be used as a reference for other materials that are subjected to cavitation caused by liquid impact.
2 Normative references

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 10123 and the following apply to this document.
3.7 The maximum instantaneous cavitation rate during the cavitation process
3.4 The relationship curve between cumulative cavitation and cumulative test time
3.5 Relationship curve between instantaneous cavitation rate and test time
3.1 Cavitation erosion
Damage process caused by the combined action of corrosion and cavitation.
3.2 cavitation rate
The amount of material loss caused by continuous cavitation per unit time and per unit area.
3.3 cumulative cavitation
The total amount of material surface loss during the test time during the cavitation process.
3.6 Incubation time
The initial segment of the cavitation rate versus test time curve.
Note: The cavitation rate at this stage is zero or can be ignored compared with the subsequent cavitation rate.
