Scope

GB/T 6369-2008 is the English-translated version of 表面活性剂 乳化力的测定 比色法.

GB/T 6369-2008 specifies the method for the determination of the emulsifying power of surface active agents by a colorimetric method. Clause 1 states that the standard applies to the determination of the emulsifying power of effluent oil treatment agents, and records no exclusion.

Clause 2, Principle, sets out the measurement: the emulsifier and the oil with colour are thoroughly mixed at a certain ratio, added to water and shaken to form an emulsion; after the mixture has stood until the layers form, the oil in the emulsified layer is extracted with a solvent, the optical density of the extract is determined, the corresponding amount of emulsified oil is found from the working curve, and the emulsifying power is calculated.

The table of contents gives the clauses as 1 Scope, 2 Principle, 3 Reagents, 4 Instruments and equipment, 5 Determination, 6 Determination results and 7 Test report.

Clause 3 lists the reagents: trichloromethane of chemical purity, fuel oil, namely marine internal combustion engine fuel oil, of 100 mPa.s to 500 mPa.s viscosity and 0.8872 g/cm3 density at 20 degrees C, distilled water of pH 7 to 8, and anhydrous sodium sulfate of chemical purity.

Clause 4 lists the apparatus, beginning with a spherical separatory funnel of 60 mL capacity, pipettes of 10 mL, 20 mL and 25 mL, volumetric flasks of 25 mL, 50 mL and 100 mL and a graduated beaker of 50 mL capacity; the preview stops inside this clause, so the page shows nothing of clauses 5, 6 and 7 beyond their titles.

The foreword states that the standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Chemical Industry Surfactants of Standardization Administration of China, and that against the previous version it adds the foreword, a clause on instruments and equipment (Clause 4) and a clause on test report (Clause 7).

It replaces GB/T 6369-1986, was issued on April 1, 2008 and has applied since October 1, 2008.

Foreword

This Standard replaces GB/T 6369-1986 "Surface active agents - Determination of emulsifying power - Colorimetric method". The main differences between this Standard and the previous version:

- ADD the foreword.

- ADD a Clause on instruments and equipment (see Clause 4).

- ADD a Clause on test report (see Clause 7).

1 Scope

This Standard specifies the method for determination of emulsifying power of surface active agents using colorimetric method.

This Standard applies to the determination of emulsifying power of effluent oil treatment agents.

2 Principle

The emulsifier and the oil with color are thoroughly mixed at a certain ratio, then added to water, and shaken to form an emulsion. After standing until the layers are formed, the oil in the emulsified layer is extracted with a solvent. Determine the optical density value of the extract. Find the corresponding amount of emulsified oil from the working curve, and calculate the emulsifying power.

3 Reagents

3.1 Trichloromethane: chemically pure.

3.2 Fuel oil: (marine internal combustion engine fuel oil) viscosity of 100 mPa . s ~ 500 mPa . s, density (20 °C) of 0.8872 g/cm3.

3.3 Distilled water: pH 7 ~ 8.

3.4 Anhydrous sodium sulfate: chemically pure.

4 Instruments and equipment

4.1 Spherical separatory funnel: capacity of 60 mL.

4.2 Pipette: 10 mL, 20 mL, 25 mL.

4.3 Volumetric flask: 25 mL, 50 mL, 100 mL.

4.4 Graduated beaker: capacity of 50 mL. […]
