Scope
GB/T 6150.4-2023 is the English-translated version of 钨精矿化学分析方法 第4部分:硫含量的测定 高频感应红外吸收法和燃烧-碘量法.
GB/T 6150.4-2023 is part 4 of the Chinese methods for chemical analysis of tungsten concentrates and determines sulfur by two methods.
Method 1, high frequency induction-infrared absorption, covers a sulfur mass fraction of 0.10 % to 4.00 % and method 2, combustion-iodometry, covers 1.00 % to 10.00 %, and method 2 arbitrates where the ranges overlap.
Method 1 burns the sample in oxygen in a high frequency induction furnace and reads the sulfur dioxide on an infrared detector, using pure iron, tin and tungsten fluxes each with its own sulfur ceiling, oxygen of not less than 99.95 % by volume and crucibles fired for 4 h at 1000 °C. Its introduction states that fifth-grade concentrates under YS/T 231-2015 reach 4.5 % sulfur.
It replaces GB/T 6150.4-2008, was issued on 6 August 2023 and applies from 1 March 2024.

GB/T 6150.4-2008 has been released and implemented for more than ten years, and it is no longer fully applicable to the current "Tungsten Concentrate" product standard (YS/T 231-2015). In the standard, there are new changes in the sulfur content indicators for different brands of tungsten concentrates. Among them, fifth-grade scheelite and black The sulfur content of tungsten concentrate can reach up to 4.5%, and the current standards can no longer meet the testing requirements of upstream and downstream customers in the tungsten industry for sulfur content in products.
Moreover, as sulfur is an important element affecting the quality of tungsten concentrate products, there are further strict requirements for the accurate determination of sulfur content. Whereas Therefore, it is necessary to revise GB/T 6150.4-2008 to ensure that the standard adapts to industry changes and meets market demand.
This document makes up for the shortcomings of the narrow measurement range of the high-frequency induction infrared absorption method by adding the combustion-iodometric method, and expands the scope of the method.
The scope is more in line with the needs of the tungsten industry for product testing. At the same time, the weighing amounts of iron and tin fluxes in the high-frequency induction infrared absorption method were changed.
This solves the problem of sample splashing during the measurement process. This document further improves the applicability and accuracy of the standard, and plays an important role in improving the quality of tungsten concentrate products.
It is of great significance to promote its production, trade and expand application demand.
1 Scope
This document describes a method for the determination of sulfur content in tungsten concentrates.
This document is applicable to the determination of sulfur content in tungsten concentrate and includes two methods (Method 1.High-frequency induction infrared absorption method; Method 2.Combustion-iodometric method). Method 1 measurement range (mass fraction). 0.10%~4.00%; Method 2 measurement range (mass fraction). 1.00%~ 10.00%. For overlapping measurement ranges, Method 2 will be used as the arbitration method.

4 Method 1.High-frequency induction infrared absorption method
4.1 Principle
In the presence of flux, the sample is passed into oxygen in a high-frequency induction furnace, so that the sulfur in the sample is burned and converted into two sulfur compounds in a high-temperature melting environment.
Oxidizing sulfur, the signal is introduced into the infrared detector and processed by a computer to measure the sulfur content in the sample.

Unless otherwise stated, only reagents confirmed to be of analytical grade are used in the analysis.
4.2.1 Pure iron flux (wS<=0.0005%).
4.2.2 Tin flux (wS<=0.0005%).
4.2.3 Tungsten flux (wS<=0.0003%).
4.2.4 Sulfur certified reference material/standard sample. a traceable reference material with a sulfur content greater than or similar to that of the sample to be tested.
