Scope

GB/T 5239-2015 is the English-translated version of 氧化镨.

GB/T 5239-2015 lays down the product requirements for praseodymium oxide together with the test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transport, storage and quality certificate that accompany it.

Clause 1 confines it to praseodymium oxide produced by the chemical method and used for making praseodymium metal, as a glass and ceramic additive and in rare earth permanent magnet alloys.

Clause 3 divides the product by chemical composition into the five grades Pr6O11-4N, Pr6O11-3N5, Pr6O11-3N, Pr6O11-2N5 and Pr6O11-2N, whose grade designation follows GB/T 17803, and requires the composition to meet Table 1, where every grade must reach a total rare earth oxide content of at least 99.0 % while the Pr6O11/REO ratio ranges from 99.0 % for the lowest grade to 99.99 % for the highest; the clause also lets supplier and purchaser agree separately where the demand side has special requirements.

Table 1 additionally caps the individual rare earth impurities La2O3, CeO2, Nd2O3, Sm2O3 and Y2O3 and the total of other rare earth impurities for each grade.

The foreword records what changed against the 2006 edition: a character grade designation and a Categories subclause were added, the grade of purity not less than 96 % was removed, grades of purity not less than 99.99 % and 99.95 % were introduced, and indexes for Na2O, Al2O3, sulfate, water and further impurities were written into the chemical composition table.

The normative references are GB/T 8170, all parts of GB/T 12690, GB/T 14635, GB/T 17803 and GB/T 18115.3, which supply the chemical analysis and grade designation rules the standard relies on.

It is administered by the national technical committee on rare earth standardization (SAC/TC 229) and was drafted chiefly by the Hunan Institute of Rare Earth Materials and Qiandong Rare Earth Group Co., Ltd. It replaces GB/T 5239-2006, was issued on September 11, 2015 and has applied since April 1, 2016.

Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with GB/T 1.1-2009 given rules.

This standard replaces GB/T 5239-2006 "praseodymium oxide." This compared with the standard GB/T 5239-2006 "praseodymium", mainly technical changes are as follows.

--- Adds character designation (see Chapter 3);

--- Added "Categories" (see 3.1);

--- Remove the grade purity of not less than 96% (see Table 1, 2006 edition);

--- Increasing the representation of brands and characters grades purity not less than 99.99% and 99.95%, the rare earth impurities assessment index points Do not use "component" and "Closing amount" means (see Table 1);

--- Chemical composition table adds Na2O, Al2O3, SO2-4 and the main amount of rare earth elements, water, other rare earth impurities and other non-significant amount Assessment indicators of rare earth impurities, and related indicators made a new regulation (see Table 1).
