Magnetic powder cores are shaped components pressed from magnetic powder and used in inductors, chokes and power electronics. This is Part 1 of a multi-part series of guidelines on their dimensions and on the limits of surface irregularities. As the general specification, it provides the common framework that the later parts, each dealing with a particular core shape, are meant to be read alongside. It adopts an international standard.

It is relevant to manufacturers of magnetic powder cores, designers of inductors and power conversion components, incoming inspection and quality teams, and laboratories that check core geometry and surface condition. Buyers and suppliers can use a common guideline when agreeing on dimensional tolerances and acceptable surface imperfections.

The standard is recommended (GB/T) and therefore voluntary unless made binding by contract or by another document. It was issued on 28 August 2026 and takes effect on 1 March 2027.
