Scope

GB/T 46602-2025 is the English-translated version of 搪瓷制品和瓷釉 莫氏硬度法测定表面耐刻划硬度.

GB/T 46602-2025 is a Chinese national standard for determining the surface scratch hardness of vitreous and porcelain enamels on the Mohs scale. It modifies and adopts ISO 6769:2022.

The document describes the method of scratching the enamel surface with standard minerals to find its Mohs hardness. Its contents include the principle, the standard minerals and the term Mohs hardness.

It applies to steel plate enamel, aluminium enamel and cast iron enamel. Compared with the ISO text, it replaces ISO 28764 with the normative reference GB/T 38166, adds a description of the scope of application and adds notes to clause 7.2. Issued on 31 October 2025 and applicable from 1 May 2026.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Mohs hardness

The hardness grade of a mineral is a measure of its scratch resistance by the ability of a harder mineral to scratch a softer mineral.

The surface Mohs hardness is determined by whether a standard mineral with a specific Mohs hardness produces scratches when manually scratching the sample surface.

5 Standard Minerals

The standard minerals and their Mohs hardness are shown in Table 1.
