GB/T 46598-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the plate and strip the pipe is rolled from - the chemistry and the inclusion control, the mechanical properties through the thickness, and the hydrogen compatibility that has to be established in the parent material before the pipe is made. First edition, with the pipe standard GB/T 46599-2025. In force from 1 May 2026. Issued on 31 October 2025, it has been in force since 1 May 2026.
This document specifies the classification and grade designation methods, manufacturing methods, technical requirements, and testing procedures for steel plates and strips used in hydrogen transmission and storage pipelines. Testing methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking and quality certificates. This document applies to the manufacture of straight-seam submerged arc furnaces for onshore transportation and storage of hydrogen with purity conforming to GB/T 3634.1 or GB/T 3634.2. Submerged arc welded (SAWL) steel pipes, spiral submerged arc welded (SAWH) steel pipes, and high frequency welded (HFW) steel pipes use steel plates with a thickness of 6 mm to 40 mm. Steel strip (hereinafter referred to as steel plate and steel strip).
