Scope

GB/T 46218-2025 is the English-translated version of 支承辊.

GB/T 46218-2025 is the Chinese national standard for rolling-mill backup rolls. It sets the technical requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules, the quality certificate and the marking, packaging, transportation and storage requirements, with terminology from GB/T 15546-2022.

A roll is made to the order drawing agreed by supplier and purchaser, by integral forging or casting, by a combination of the two, or by a metallurgical composite route such as electroslag or surfacing; the chemical composition follows the table in the standard, and the mandrel of a composite roll may be carbon or low-alloy structural steel.

Hardness is checked by the Brinell, Shore and Leeb methods, and forgings ultrasonically under GB/T 6402. It applies to backup rolls and roll sleeves for ferrous and non-ferrous rolling mills. It was issued on 29 August 2025 and has applied since 1 March 2026.
