GB/T 45550-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering surveying the bee stocks of a region, Eastern honey bee and Western honey bee alike — the resources to be covered, from those on the national list to populations nobody has yet described, the survey method, the colony strength, the robbing and the migration tendency, the production performance in honey, pollen, royal jelly, propolis, wax and venom, and the records and archives that make the result usable later. Part of the livestock, bee and silkworm resource survey set, with the livestock and poultry series GB/T 27534. First edition, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. In force from 1 November 2025. Issued on 25 April 2025, it has been in force since 1 November 2025.

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1: Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting is required.

GB/T 45550 "Technical Specifications for Investigation of Honeybee Genetic Resources" and GB/T 27534 "Technical Specifications for Investigation of Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources", GB/T 45552 The Technical Specifications for the Investigation of Silkworm Genetic Resources and GB/T 45553 Technical Specifications for the Investigation of Tussah Genetic Resources together constitute the technical standards for the investigation of livestock, bees and silkworms.

Technical specifications for investigation of honey bee genetic resources

1 Scope

This document specifies the objects, methods, contents of the survey on honey bee genetic resources, as well as the requirements for record and archive management, and describes the survey methods.

This document applies to the genetic resource survey of Eastern honey bees (Apis cerana) and Western honey bees (Apis mellifera).

3 Terms and definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 45551 and the following apply to this document.

3.1 colony strength

An indicator to measure the strength of a bee colony.

Note. It is expressed as the number of frames of worker bees and brood combs in the bee colony.

3.2 Robbery

The act of worker bees entering the hive of another beehive to steal honey.

3.3 migration tendency

The act of a bee colony migrating from one place to another to escape adverse environmental conditions.

3.4 production performance

The ability of a bee colony to produce bee products such as honey, bee pollen, royal jelly, propolis, beeswax and bee venom.

4 Survey subjects

It should be any of the following species or resources.

--Bee genetic resources included in the National List of Bee Genetic Resources;

--New varieties (supporting lines) and new resources approved by the livestock and poultry genetic resources approval and appraisal institutions;

-- Newly approved bee genetic resources;

--Unknown bee genetic resources.
