1 Scope

This document specifies the technical requirements for earth-rock dam safety monitoring design, installation, commissioning and acceptance, operation and maintenance.

This document is applicable to the dam bodies, dam foundations, dam shoulders, water discharge and energy dissipation structures of Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 earth-rock dams, as well as Safety monitoring of slopes near the dam reservoir bank and hub area shall be carried out as a reference for level 4 and level 5 earth-rock dams.

3 Terms, definitions and abbreviations

3.1 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1.1

The period from when the reservoir begins to store water to when it reaches (or approaches) the normal water level.

Note. If the normal water level is not reached within one year after the start of water storage, it will be regarded as the first year after the start of water storage.

3.1.2

The first 3 years after the first impoundment period.

3.1.3 Operation period operationperiod

The period after the initial accumulation period.
