Scope
GB/T 45272-2025 is the English-translated version of 家居产品适老化设计指南.
GB/T 45272-2025 gives the Chinese guidelines for age-friendly design of household products. The premise is that most of what makes a home difficult for an older person is not the building but the objects in it: the tap that needs a grip they no longer have, the control panel whose contrast they cannot read, the chair they cannot rise from, the appliance whose beep they cannot hear. China is ageing rapidly and its furniture and appliance industries are the largest in the world, which makes design guidance of this kind commercially significant as well as social. The standard sets the design principles and then the design elements: the sensory elements covering vision, hearing, touch and the legibility of displays and markings, the health and safety elements, the physical and anthropometric fit including reach, grip and force, the cognitive elements covering the simplicity and consistency of operation, the adaptability to changing ability, and the emotional and dignity considerations, together with the evaluation of a design against them. It takes effect on 1 September 2025.
