1 Scope

GB/T 45194-2024 sets the general requirements for classic vehicles in China, and it is the document that creates the category. Until now a thirty-year-old car in China was simply an old car, subject to scrappage rules, emission limits and inspection regimes written for vehicles in daily use, which is why almost nothing survived. It defines the terms and definitions for traditional historical vehicles and stipulates the requirements for their certification, and it applies to the certification of such vehicles legally held in China or intended to be brought into China. It sets out what a traditional historical vehicle is, the age and originality criteria a vehicle has to meet, the classification into grades according to the degree of originality and preservation, the requirements on the condition of the vehicle and on the authenticity of its components, the rules on permitted restoration and on the documentation of it, the identification and technical inspection requirements, and the appraisal procedure and the records that support it. It is the foundation of a classic vehicle market in China: registration, insurance, valuation and the limited road use allowed all follow from the appraisal this document defines.

This document defines the terms and definitions of traditional classic cars, sets out the requirements for recognition and information management, and establishes the recognition process.
