GB/T 45140-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering whether a replanted mangrove is establishing itself — the workflow, the collection of existing data on the site, the choice of monitoring and evaluation indicators, the monitoring plan covering the plants, the sediment, the birds and the associated fauna, the survival rate and the preservation rate that separates seedlings which merely took root from those still growing at the end of the monitoring period, and the evaluation of ecological function. First edition, with the oil spill restoration standard GB/T 45142-2025. Under the Ministry of Natural Resources. In force from 1 May 2025. Issued on 24 January 2025, it has been in force since 1 May 2025.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 mangroves

A plant community distributed in the intertidal zones of tropical and subtropical regions, with mangroves as the main body.

3.2

In areas where mangroves are degraded or lost, efforts should be made to eliminate stress factors, improve habitat conditions, and artificially introduce mangrove plant propagules/seedlings.

Measures are taken to promote the formation of a stable ecosystem with similar ecological functions as native mangroves.

3.3 Survival rate

The percentage of surviving seedlings in the restoration area to the number of initially planted seedlings.

3.4 preservation rate

After the seedlings in the restoration area are planted and survive, the number of seedlings that are still growing normally during the monitoring period accounts for the percentage of the number of initially planted seedlings.

4 Workflow

4.1 The work process of monitoring and effect evaluation of mangrove ecological restoration includes data collection and analysis, formulation of ecological monitoring and effect evaluation plan, There are four steps to implement ecological monitoring and restoration effect evaluation, see Figure 1.
