Scope

GB/T 45090-2024 is the English-translated version of 塑料 再生塑料的标识和标志.

GB/T 45090-2024 is the Chinese national standard covering how a recycled resin, or a product moulded from one, declares what it actually is — the identification and the marking, and the split between mechanical recycling by crushing, washing and re-extrusion, physical recycling by dissolving and separating, and chemical recycling that breaks the polymer back to monomer, so a buyer reading the mark can tell the material and its composition apart from a bare claim. First edition, with the restricted substances standard GB/T 45091-2024, under the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. In force from 1 June 2025. Issued on 28 November 2024, it has been in force since 1 June 2025.

3 Terms and definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 2035 and the following apply to this document.

3.1 recycled plastic

Plastics processed from waste plastics for their original or other uses, excluding energy recovery.

Note 1.In a broad sense, recycling of plastics includes any reuse of scrap or waste products, such as depolymerization to recover organic chemicals.

Note 2.Recycled plastics may or may not be mixed with fillers, plasticizers, stabilizers, pigments, etc.

[Source. GB/T 40006.1-2021, 3.1, modified]

3.2 Mechanical recycling

The process of processing waste plastics into secondary raw materials or products through screening, crushing, washing or melt extrusion granulation.

The chemical structure of the material does not change significantly during the process.

3.3 Physical recycling

The waste plastics are separated and purified by physical methods such as melting, splitting, stripping, dissolving, extraction (solid-liquid), precipitation or filtration for use in Original use or a similar use in which the chemical structure of the material is not significantly changed.

Note 1.This process can also recover other valuable components of plastics (such as metals, reinforcing fibers, etc.).

NOTE 2.Currently, most physical recovery is solvent-based.

3.4 Chemical recycling

In addition to energy recovery and incineration, the chemical structure of plastic waste can be changed through cracking, gasification or depolymerization to produce Into new monomers or raw materials.
