Scope

GB/T 45088-2024 is the English-translated version of 林木采伐技术规程.

GB/T 45088-2024 is the Chinese code of practice for felling trees, and it governs the whole sequence rather than the cutting alone. Harvesting in China is administered: a cut has to be approved, designed, executed and then inspected against the design, and the standard sets out each of those stages. It establishes the harvesting procedure, then the determination of the harvesting type and method, clear cutting, selective cutting, shelterwood and the rest, the regeneration that has to follow the cut, the survey and design of the cutting area, the harvesting operations themselves, the operational safety and protection measures, the inspection and acceptance of the cutting area and the management of the records. Seven normative annexes carry the working material: the growth requirements a stand has to meet before it may be cut, the applicable conditions and technical parameters of the different skidding methods, the full survey and design tables for each harvesting type and method, the design of the labour and machinery, the production costs, eleven pages of operating and safety requirements for the felling work itself, and the evaluation used at acceptance. Two informative annexes give the starting breast height diameters for selective cutting of the principal species and the field survey sheet. It applies to the harvesting of all kinds of trees on forest land, and may be referenced for trees off forest land.
