GB/T 45040-2024 is the Chinese national standard covering how much air passes through a latex pillow or mattress pad — the pre-pressure that stands in for the weight of a body lying, sitting or leaning on it, since latex breathes differently once someone is pressing on it, the specified test area and the pressure drop held across the specimen, and the rate of air flow measured through that area over a set time. The method is adapted from the fabric air permeability test, with the loading that a finished latex product actually sees. First edition, under the China National Textile and Apparel Council. In force from 1 July 2025. Issued on 31 December 2024, it has been in force since 1 July 2025.

1 Scope

This document describes the test method for the air permeability of latex bedding products.

This document is applicable to the air permeability test of latex pillows, latex pads and other latex products for bedding. Follow the instructions.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Air permeability

Air permeability properties of latex products.

Note. It is expressed as the rate of air flow through the test specimen under certain test prepressure (3.2), specified test area, pressure drop and time conditions.

3.2 preloading

The force generated by the human body's lying, sitting, leaning back and other activities when using latex products is evenly applied to the specified Pressure on area.

4 Principle

Apply pre-pressure to the sample, and measure the air flow through the specified area of the sample within a certain period of time under the specified pressure drop conditions.
