GB/T 44914-2024 is the English-translated version of 和田玉分级.

GB/T 44914-2024 is the Chinese national standard covering nephrite from Hetian, graded rather than merely identified — the identification and classification of white, green and yellow jade, the colour grade, the texture grade, the clarity grade and the uniformity grade, the combination of all four at the top grade that alone earns a piece the name mutton-fat white jade, the evaluation of the craftsmanship, the grading certificate, and the marking. Finished pieces are in scope; rough is graded by reference. First edition, with the filled-gemstone standard GB/T 44913-2024, under the Ministry of Natural Resources. In force from 1 June 2025. Issued on 28 November 2024, it has been in force since 1 June 2025.

1 Scope

This document specifies the identification and classification of Hetian jade, grading requirements, grading items and grading methods, process quality evaluation, grading certificates, Logo.

This document is applicable to the grading of Hetian white jade, jasper and topaz products. The grading of Hetian white jade, jasper and topaz raw materials is implemented as a reference.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Hetianyu

A collection of tremolite minerals produced in nature, which are beautiful, durable, rare and have craft value and can be processed into jewelry.

It can be actinolite, and may contain small amounts of calcite, diopside, graphite, pyrite, chromite, magnetite, quartz, serpentine, chlorite, epidote, silica.

Minerals such as limestone, apatite and garnet. Refractive index 1.60~1.61 (point measurement), density 2.95 (0.15, -0.05) g/cm3.

3.2 Baiyu

The main color of Hetian jade is white, with slight other tones.

3.3 YangzhiBaiyu

The color grade, texture grade, clarity grade and uniformity grade of white jade are all A grade.

3.4 Biyu

The main colors of Hetian jade range from light to dark green, gray-green, blue-green, and slightly yellowish green, and are colored by elements such as iron, nickel, and chromium.

3.5 Huangyu

The main color of Hetian jade is light to medium yellow, green yellow and other colors.
