China's national standard for testing and classifying Hetian jade. It specifies the terms and definitions, the identification, the classification and the naming. Hetian jade is nephrite, and it holds a place in Chinese culture that no Western gem material occupies - it has been carved for four thousand years, it carries a symbolic weight comparable to gold in the West, and the best white material trades at prices that make it among the most valuable substances by weight in the country. That value creates the problem the standard addresses. Nephrite is chemically simple and its appearance is easily imitated, by serpentine, by quartzite, by glass and by dyed and treated material of the same species; and the name Hetian carries a geographic origin claim that the material itself cannot prove, since nephrite from other deposits is mineralogically identical. Fixing what may be tested, what may be classified and what may be named is therefore the whole substance of it.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 16552 and GB/T 16553 and the following apply to this document.
3.1 HetianYu Produced by nature, it has beautiful, durable, scarce and craft value, and can be processed into a collection of tremolite mineral ornaments, secondary minerals It can be actinite, which can contain a small amount of calcite, diopside, graphite, pyrite, chromite, magnetite, quartz, serpentine, chlorite, epidote, silicon Minerals such as limestone, apatite and garnet.
