Scope
GB/T 44523-2024 is the English-translated version of 连续搬运机械 安全标志和危险图示通则.
China's national general principles for the safety signs and hazard pictorials used on continuous mechanical handling equipment. Conveyors, elevators and their relatives present hazards that are invisible in the sense that matters: a belt running at two metres a second is quiet, looks harmless, and will pull an arm into a nip point faster than anyone can react. The nip points themselves - where the belt meets a pulley, where a chain meets a sprocket - are the hazard, and there are dozens along a single machine. Signs are the last line of defence after guarding, and their design has to work for the people at risk: often not the operators, but cleaners, maintainers and passers-by, who may not read the language and who see the sign only in passing. That is why the principles are about pictorials, placement and consistency rather than about wording.

General rules for safety signs and hazard pictorial symbols for continuous handling machinery
1 Scope
China's national general principles for the safety signs and hazard pictorials used on continuous mechanical handling equipment. Conveyors, elevators and their relatives present hazards that are invisible in the sense that matters: a belt running at two metres a second is quiet, looks harmless, and will pull an arm into a nip point faster than anyone can react. The nip points themselves - where the belt meets a pulley, where a chain meets a sprocket - are the hazard, and there are dozens along a single machine. That is why the principles are about pictorials, placement and consistency rather than about wording.
This document specifies general principles for the design and application of safety signs and hazard pictorial symbols on continuous handling machinery. This document applies to various types of continuous handling machinery defined in GB/T 14521.
