1 Scope

GB/T 44354-2024 sets the general principles for safety signs and hazard pictorials on parking equipment, the mechanical and automated car parking systems that China has installed in very large numbers. These machines are unusual in that the people most at risk from them are members of the public with no training who interact with them briefly and without supervision, so the signage is not a supplement to instruction, it is the instruction. The standard sets the purpose of the safety signs, the forms they take, their composition and standard layout, the safety alert symbol, the signal words and the colour and geometric conventions that distinguish danger, warning, caution and notice, then the design of the hazard pictorials themselves, the requirements on the text, the placement, size and durability of the signs on the equipment, the multilingual and pictorial requirements, and the verification of comprehension. It took effect on 23 August 2024, and for a manufacturer or an operator of parking systems in China it is the reference the signage is judged against.

This document specifies the form, color, size, hazard illustrations, installation requirements, and inspection and maintenance requirements for parking equipment safety signs. This document applies to various types of mechanical parking equipment defined in GB/T 26476.

3 Terms and definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 26476 and the following apply to this document.

3.1 safety sign A symbol used to convey specific safety information.

3.2 hazard pictorial Graphics that give a visual description of the hazard and how to avoid it.

Note. Hazard pictograms are an integral part of safety signs.

4 Purpose of safety signs

The purpose of parking equipment safety signs is as follows: Remind personnel of existing dangers or potential dangers;

a) Identify hazards;

b) Describe the characteristics of the hazard;

c) Describe the personal injury that may result from the hazard;

d) Instruct personnel on how to avoid hazards. e)

5 Forms of safety signs

5.1 Composition of safety signs The safety sign consists of two or more rectangular blocks within a border, and the rectangular blocks express the hazard information related to the product.
