1 Scope

GB/T 43814-2024 is the Chinese general technical standard for intelligent furniture, the category that appears when a wardrobe, a bed, a desk or a sofa acquires motors, sensors, a controller and a network connection. It is a genuinely awkward product to standardise, because it has to satisfy the furniture requirements and the electrical, electromagnetic and information requirements at once, and until this document existed nobody was clear which applied. The standard sets the requirements on the furniture itself and on its intelligent functions, on electrical safety and on electromagnetic compatibility both emission and immunity, on the control and interaction, on noise, on durability and on the safety of moving parts, and it describes the corresponding test methods; it then sets the inspection rules, the marking, the instructions for use, and the packaging, storage and transport. It applies to indoor intelligent furniture products. It takes effect on 1 October 2024, and for a maker or a retailer it is the text a product has to be shown against.
