1 Scope

GB/T 43171-2023 sets the data codes and the data collection technology for epidemiological investigation of animal diseases. China runs continuous surveillance across a livestock population larger than any other country's, and the value of an investigation depends on whether the records from a village in Yunnan and one in Heilongjiang can be pooled: free-text answers cannot be, coded ones can. The standard sets the data codes and the requirements for filling them - the coding method, the basic information about the investigating party, and the separate structures for emergency epidemiological investigation and for routine surveys - then the data collection technology, covering the collection process and the collection methods. It took effect on 1 April 2024.

This document determines the indicators and indicator codes for animal disease epidemiological survey data, provides the corresponding code table, and Relevant requirements are put forward for data collection. This document is applicable to animal disease prevention and control institutions, animal disease reference laboratories, animal disease professional laboratories, and scientific research laboratories at all levels across the country. Collection, storage, management, application and sharing of animal disease epidemiological survey data in hospitals, animal clinics and other institutions.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 A large number of similar cases occurred in a certain animal farm or a certain area in a short period of time, or the epidemic with a known cause lasted for the longest time. An investigation into the sudden occurrence of multiple cases during the incubation period.

3.2 For a period of time before the first case of the disease occurs (usually a maximum incubation period), all contacts (including direct direct and indirect contact) incidents.

3.3 After the epidemic occurs, all events that may have spread the disease will be investigated to determine whether the disease has spread and its scope.

Note. The tracking period is generally from the incubation period before the first case is discovered to the date of lockdown.

3.4 A general term for all epidemiological investigation methods except emergency epidemiological investigation.
