3 Terms and definitions

3 The following term and definition apply to this document.

3.1 label for emission of volatile organic compounds: An information label showing that the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from furniture complies with the requirements of the prescribed standard.

4 Objects of labelling

4 When the VOCs emission of wooden furniture complies with the requirements of GB/T 42996.1-2023, or the VOCs emission of upholstered furniture complies with the requirements of GB/T 42996.2-2023, the enterprise producing that product may use the label for emission of volatile organic compounds from furniture, called the label below.

5 Labelling requirements

5.1.1 Style of the graphic. The schematic diagram of the label graphic is shown in Figure 1.

5.1.2 Meaning of the graphic. The overall colour of the label is green; the core part is the Chinese word for pass; the Chinese wording for volatile organic compounds and the English wording Volatile Organic Compounds are set around it; and a ring of olive branches encloses the whole, indicating compliance with the prescribed standard.

5.1.3 Specification of the graphic. The suitable size of the label graphic is to be decided according to the size of the product. If the label has to be reduced or enlarged, it is to be reduced or enlarged in the same proportion as given in the label graphic. The style specification of the label graphic is to comply with the requirements of Annex A.

5.1.4 Requirements on the graphic. 5.1.4.1 The label graphic may be applied by sticking, by spraying or by embossing; when it is applied by sticking or by spraying its colour is to comply with the provisions of Annex A, and when it is applied by embossing the natural colour of the product may be used. 5.1.4.2 The label graphic is to be clearly visible and is not to impair the serviceability of the furniture nor damage its coating. 5.1.4.3 The label graphic is to be stuck or hung on a conspicuous part of the furniture, and it may also be shown on the furniture or in the instructions for use.

5.2.1 Way of labelling. The label graphic is advised to be accompanied by an information label, and the information label is advised to be placed to the right of or below the label graphic.

5.2.2 Content of the information. The information label is to contain at least the following information: a) the name of the enterprise and the production date or batch number; b) the product name and the specification and model; c) the number of the standard applied; d) the kinds and the limit values of the VOCs in the standard applied; e) the declaration that the emission of volatile organic compounds from this piece of furniture complies with the limit requirements.

5.2.3 Division of the information label into functional areas. 5.2.3.1 The information label is made up of the two functional areas called title area and information area, as shown in Figure B.1 of Annex B. 5.2.3.2 The title area lies at the top of the label and shows the name of the label. The enterprise logo is on the left of the title area and the title name on the right. The name of the label is the Chinese wording for emission of volatile organic compounds from furniture, corresponding to the English capitals EMISSION OF VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS FROM FURNITURE, set out with the Chinese above and the English below. 5.2.3.3 The information area is divided into the two parts called basic furniture information area and VOCs emission information area. The basic furniture information area lies in the upper part of the information area and holds the name of the enterprise, the production date or batch number, the product name, the specification and model, the number of the standard applied and so on. The VOCs emission information area lies in the lower part and holds the names of the volatile organic compounds, their limit values, their emission values and so on, together with the declaration that the emission of volatile organic compounds from this piece of furniture complies with the limit requirements.

5.2.4 Style and specification of the information label. 5.2.4.1 The style of the information label is to be simple and clear and easy for the consumer to understand. 5.2.4.2 The schematic diagram of the style of the information label is given in Figure B.1. A furniture enterprise may also design the style of the label information according to its own circumstances, the content having to include the requirements of 5.2.2.

Annex A Specification for the style of the label graphic

A The style specification of the label graphic for emission of volatile organic compounds from furniture is given in Figure A.1. In Figure A.1 the Chinese word for pass uses the Chinese typeface Source Han Serif Medium in the colour C0, M0, Y0, K0. The Chinese wording for volatile organic compounds uses the Chinese typeface Source Han Sans Bold in the colour C90, M50, Y100, K15. The English wording Volatile Organic Compounds uses the English typeface Arial Narrow Bold in the colour C90, M50, Y100, K15.

A Figure A.1 sets the graphic on a squared grid whose two axes are marked in units running from 0 to 25 A, the letter A denoting the module by which the graphic is scaled.
