Scope
GB/T 41776-2022 is the English-translated version of 法庭科学 弹药鉴定方法.
GB/T 41776-2022 describes how a forensic laboratory decides whether a suspect object is ammunition and what kind it is. It sets out the principle, the material examined, the examination itself, the rules for reaching a judgement and the form of the expert opinion.
Examination has two steps, inspection of the outward features and of the internal charge, with analysis of the explosion replacing the second step when the charge cannot safely be recovered.
The material examined includes the original records of appearance, shape, markings, mass and dimensions, and the recovered charge. Informative annexes give dimensions, structures and marking features of typical grenades, launched and deployed ammunition, aviation bombs, artillery and rocket projectiles and flares.
It applies to suspected ammunition above 20 mm in calibre, was issued on 14 October 2022 and has applied since 1 February 2023.

3 Terms and Definitions
GB/T 41775 as well as the following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Ammunition
Items wrapped in metal or non-metallic shells containing propelling charges, explosive charges or other fillings that can damage the target.
4 Principles
According to whether the appearance characteristics of the suspected ammunition are consistent with the ammunition, and whether the interior is charged, or whether it is explosive, identify whether it is an ammunition or not.
And according to the physical characteristics and signs of suspected ammunition, the type of ammunition is analyzed.
5 Inspection materials
5.1 The original records of the appearance, shape, marking features, weight, and dimensions of the suspected ammunition.
5.2 The internal charge obtained after the suspected ammunition is decomposed. If it is suspected that the ammunition explodes during the decomposition process or the In order to detonate, the video of the explosion, photos of explosion traces, measurement data and other records are attached.
6 Inspection
6.1 General steps
The inspection of suspected ammunition is generally divided into two steps: appearance feature inspection and internal charge inspection (or explosion phenomenon analysis).
Analysis is an alternative execution step when the internal charge inspection conditions are not met (such as an explosion during the process of taking the charge, etc.).
