1 Scope
This document defines terms and definitions for rotary joints.
This document is suitable for fluid dynamic seals in equipment that transport fluid media from fixed pipes to pipes that rotate or swing to an angle device.

3 Terms and Definitions
3.1 General terminology
3.1.1 Rotary joint
The fluid dynamic sealing device in the equipment that transports the fluid medium (3.4.16) from a fixed pipeline to a pipeline that rotates or swings to an angle. [Source: JB/T 8725-2013, 3.1]
3.1.2 Rotary joint nominal size
The nominal size of the outer pipe (3.3.1) for connecting the rotary joint to the rotating equipment or pipeline. [Source: JB/T 8725-2013, 3.9]
3.1.3 Entry
The medium is transported from the fixed pipeline to the channel in the rotating equipment that flows into the rotary joint.
3.1.4 Exit
The medium is transported from the rotating equipment to the channel of the fixed pipeline out of the rotating joint.
3.2 Taxonomy terms
3.2.1 Seal type
3.2.1.1 Spherical seal
It is composed of at least one pair of convex spherical surface and concave spherical surface, which keep fit and slide relatively under the action of fluid pressure and elastic force of compensation mechanism. Mechanism to prevent fluid leakage.
