Scope
GB/T 41025-2021 is the English-translated version of 煤层气废弃井处置指南.
GB/T 41025-2021 gives guidance on the disposal of abandoned coalbed methane (CBM) wells, meaning wells that can no longer be used for geological, engineering, economic, coal mining or environmental reasons.
It sets general principles: preventing safety hazards and pollution, isolating the target layer from aquifers and surface water, keeping coal mining safe where the well lies within coal mine rights, and restoring the well site.
It then covers the plugging operation, starting from an engineering design report, together with construction and acceptance, safety and environmental protection requirements, quality evaluation and record keeping.
Informative appendices give the design report form and the basic data table for plugging operations. It applies to vertical and directional CBM wells. It was issued on 31 December 2021 and has applied since 1 July 2022.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1. Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" drafted.
1 Scope
This document provides the general principles, plugging operations, construction and acceptance, safety and environmental protection requirements, quality evaluation and records for the disposal of abandoned coalbed methane wells. Guidelines for recording archives, etc.
This document is applicable to the disposal operations of vertical and directional wells of coalbed methane.
2 Normative references
The contents of the following documents constitute essential provisions of this document through normative references in the text. Among them, dated citations documents, only the version corresponding to that date applies to this document; for undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this document.

3 Terms and Definitions
GB/T 31537 and the following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Abandoned coalbed methane well
CBM wells that cannot be reused due to geological, engineering, economic, coal mining and environmental factors in the process of surface exploration and development of CBM.
Note: It includes wells that have accidents and can no longer be dealt with, wells that are no longer producing after exploration, wells that fail to achieve expected benefits, and wells that have ended their gas production life, etc.
4 General principles
4.1 Reasonably dispose of coalbed methane abandoned wells to prevent potential safety hazards and environmental pollution caused by unreasonable disposal.
4.2 Isolate the hydraulic connection between the target layer of the CBM well, the aquifer and surface water, and prevent the water resource pollution caused by the mutual channeling of formation fluids in different layers.
4.3 Disposal of abandoned coalbed methane wells within the scope of coal mine rights should ensure safe mining of coal mines and prevent formation fluids from entering the coal seam through the wellbore lead to coal mine safety accidents.
4.4 Landform restoration shall be carried out on well sites that are no longer planned and constructed after the disposal of abandoned coalbed methane wells to meet the requirements of reclamation and greening.
5 CBM Abandoned Well Plugging Operation
5.1 Design
Before plugging and disposing of abandoned coalbed methane wells, an engineering design report should be prepared, and the required data and design styles are shown in Appendix A. […]
