Scope
GB/T 40790-2021 is the English-translated version of 烧结铈及富铈永磁材料.
GB/T 40790-2021 is the Chinese product standard for sintered cerium-based and cerium-rich permanent magnet materials made by powder metallurgy.
It defines a cerium-based magnet as one in which cerium is the most abundant rare earth, and a cerium-rich magnet as one in which cerium is not the largest rare earth but makes up not less than 10% of the total rare earth content.
The standard covers classification and grades, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and packaging, marking, transport, storage and accompanying documents.
It relies on GB/T 3217 for magnetic testing, GB/T 24270 for temperature coefficients and GB/T 2828.1 for sampling. It applies to magnets used mainly in electronics, electric power, machinery and medical equipment, and was issued on 11 October 2021 and has applied since 1 May 2022.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions defined in GB/T 13560 apply to this document.
3.1 Sintered cerium-based permanent magnet
Mainly Ce2Fe14B phase and 2.14.1 type (Ce,Re)-Fe-B phase, 2.14.1 type (Pr,Nd)-Fe-B equal supplementary, cerium A rare earth permanent magnet with an element content greater than that of any rare earth element other than cerium in the magnet.
3.2 Sintered cerium-rich permanent magnet
(RE,Ce)2Fe14B (RE does not contain Ce) phase and Ce2Fe14B phase coexist, and Ce2Fe14B phase increases with the increase of cerium content, However, cerium is not the rare earth element with the largest content in the composition, and its content accounts for not less than 10% of the total rare earth element of the magnet (Ce/RE). magnet.
3.3 Sintered cerium-based and cerium-rich permanent magnet
The general term for sintered cerium permanent magnet and sintered cerium-rich permanent magnet.
