GB/T 40780-2021 is the English-translated version of 基于OID的地理位置标识编码.
GB/T 40780-2021 defines an OID-based coding scheme for identifying geographic locations through a grid laid over the surface of the Earth. The surface is first split by the equator and the prime meridian into four divisions, coded 1 to 4, each covering 0 to 90 degrees of latitude and 0 to 180 degrees of longitude.
The standard then sets the principles of the grid, the grid levels and the way the centre point of a grid cell is located, followed by the coding rules and the rules for adding custom grid codes, with an informative annex of coding examples.
It is intended for building, managing and using geographic location information databases and related systems. It cites no normative references, was issued on 11 October 2021 and has applied since 1 May 2022.

1 Scope
This document specifies the OID coding structure of grid settings, grid positioning and grid identification related to geographic location information.
This document applies to the construction, management and application of geographic location information databases and related systems.

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Grid
The space area enclosed by two or more sets of curves (surfaces).
4 Abbreviations
The following abbreviations apply to this document.
OID. Object Identifier (ObjectIdentifier)
5 Earth divisions
The four subregions of the earth's surface divided by the earth's equator and the prime meridian are set as the first subarea, the second subarea, the third subarea and the third subarea. 4 partitions and assign corresponding codes respectively. The partition codes and coverage are as follows.
a) The first division, covering. 0°~90°N latitude, 0°~180°E longitude, code. 1.
b) The second zone, covering. 0°~90°N latitude, 0°~180°W longitude, code. 2.
c) The third zone, covering. 0°~90° south latitude, 0°~180° west longitude, code. 3.
d) The 4th zone, covering. 0°~90° south latitude, 0°~180° east longitude, code. 4. See Figure 1 for a schematic diagram of the partition.
