Scope

GB/T 40746-2021 is the English-translated version of 淡水有核珍珠.

GB/T 40746-2021 sets the quality grading of freshwater nucleated pearls, pearls cultured by implanting a nucleus in a freshwater pearl mussel so that nacre is secreted around it.

It defines the terms used, the quality factors and their levels, such as colour, size and shape, and the pearl grades. It also gives the inspection methods, the requirements for grading personnel, the basic content of a grading report or certificate, and marking, labelling, packaging, transport and storage.

Colour and size are judged against the requirements of GB/T 18781-2008 on pearl classification. It applies to the quality evaluation of freshwater nucleated pearls. It was issued on 11 October 2021 and has applied since 1 May 2022.

1 Scope

This document specifies the terms and definitions of freshwater nucleated pearls, quality factors and grades, pearl grades, inspection methods, requirements for grading personnel, The basic content of the grading report or certificate, marking and labeling, packaging, transportation, and storage.

This document is applicable to the quality evaluation of freshwater nucleated pearls.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Freshwater nucleated pearl

The pearl is formed by implanting the pearl nucleus in the freshwater pearl clam and secreting nacre on the surface of the pearl nucleus. [Source: GB/T 37063-2018,3.9]

4 Quality factors and levels

4.1 Color

It shall meet the requirements of 5.1 in GB/T 18781-2008.

4.2 Size

It shall meet the requirements of 5.2 in GB/T 18781-2008.

4.3 Shape level

The shape classification is shown in Table 1.
