GB/T 40324-2021 is the English-translated version of 无损检测 大直径圆棒聚焦超声检测方法.
GB/T 40324-2021 is the Chinese national method for immersion ultrasonic testing of large-diameter round bars with zone-focused beams, produced either by several single-element focused probes or by phased array probes.
It applies to bars of special metals such as titanium alloys and superalloys, at least 100 mm in diameter and formed by forging, extrusion or rolling, where high sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio are needed to find small defects in material for key aerospace components.
It covers the principle of the method, general requirements, the testing procedure, acceptance, and the test record and report. Informative annexes give recommended probe parameters, zone inspection plans for different bar sizes, acceptance of special titanium alloy bars and reference test blocks. It was issued on 21 May 2021 and has applied since 1 December 2021.

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" Drafting.
1 Scope
This document specifies the general ultrasonic testing of large-diameter round rod water immersion zone focusing (multiple single-element focusing probes or ultrasonic phased array probes). Requirements, testing procedures and acceptance, etc.
This document is applicable to special metal round bars (titanium alloys) with a diameter of not less than 100mm and prepared by forging, extrusion, rolling and other forming processes. Gold, superalloys, etc.) sub-regional focused ultrasonic testing of water immersion.
Note: Special metal round bars mainly refer to higher material quality requirements, so higher detection sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio are required to achieve the purpose of detecting small defects Metal round bars. 3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions defined in GB/T 12604.1 and GB/T 20737 apply to this document.
3.1 Dynamic depth focusing; DDF
In the ultrasonic phased array detection, the focus rule is controlled so that the sound beam is focused at a fixed depth in the inspected material when it is emitted, and the focus is at the same time when receiving. Change within a certain depth range.
3.2 Horizontal limit
The maximum readable length of the horizontal scan line determined by the electronic or physical limits displayed by the A-type ultrasonic detector.
3.3 Vertical limit
The maximum readable height of the display signal determined by the electronic or physical limits of the A-type ultrasonic detector.
