Scope
GB/T 40215-2021 is the English-translated version of 气象观测装备编码规则.
GB/T 40215-2021 lays down the coding rules for meteorological observation equipment, fixing the structure and content of the code given to each item of equipment.
The code has four parts: a 9-character equipment category code, an 8-byte manufacturer identification code, a 14-character production serial code and a 3-character check code.
The category code is built from five levels - category, large, medium, small and fine category - and where a medium category is not divided further the lower level is coded "00".
Annex A lists the types of meteorological observation equipment and their codes, and Annex B gives the method for calculating the check code. The standard cites GB/T 2260, GB/T 7408-2005 and GB 12904-2008. It was issued on 21 May 2021 and has applied since 1 December 2021.

1 Scope
This document specifies the structure and content of the coding of meteorological observation equipment (hereinafter referred to as "equipment").

4 The overall structure of the code
The equipment code includes equipment category, manufacturer, production sequence and verification information, etc. The overall structure should meet the requirements of Table 1.
5 Code content
5.1 Equipment category code
5.1.1 Equipment category code structure
It is used to identify the classification of the equipment. It should be composed of 5 parts: category code, large category code, medium category code, small category code, and fine category code, a total of 9 characters.
The structure should meet the requirements of Table 2. If it is not possible to further divide several sub-categories after being divided into the medium code, the code of the sub-category code is "00".
