Scope

GB/T 40032-2021 is the English-translated version of 电动汽车换电安全要求.

GB/T 40032-2021 sets the safety requirements for battery electric passenger cars of category M1 whose traction battery can be swapped. It covers the battery swap system, the swap mechanism and the swap connector, which must unlock in two or more steps and connect and disconnect the circuits in the correct sequence.

The vehicle must pass a series of battery swap operations, a road test of at least 15000 km and a simulated wading test, while the swap system and connector are tested for vibration and mechanical shock, withstand voltage, insulation resistance, IPX7 and IPX9K protection and temperature rise.

Inspection rules and a test record sheet in Annex A complete the document, which is used by vehicle manufacturers and test laboratories. It was issued on 30 April 2021 and has applied since 1 November 2021.

4 Safety requirements

4.1 General requirements

4.1.1 Battery swap system

4.1.1.1 The design and manufacture of the battery swap system shall meet the requirements of safe, fast and reliable battery pack swap.

4.1.2 Battery swap mechanism and battery swap connector

4.1.2.1 There shall be no burrs, foreign objects, flashes and similar sharp edges on the surface of the battery swap mechanism and the battery swap connector.

4.1.2.3 The battery swap mechanism shall have both the automatic unlocking function and manual unlocking function of the dedicated device. Two or more steps shall be used to unlock. The process shall be continuous and reliable. Avoid maloperation.

4.1.2.4 The electrical interface shall have the correct electrical connection and disconnection sequence. Avoid unexpected high and low voltage circuit conduction during battery swap.

4.2 Vehicle requirements

4.2.1 Battery swap operation

4.2.1.1 Electric vehicles shall be tested for battery swap operation in accordance with 5.3.2. See Table 1 for the number of battery swap operations.

4.2.1.5 During the test, there shall be no failures such as connection failure at the battery swap connector.

4.2.2 Road driving

4.2.2.1 Electric vehicles shall be tested for road driving in accordance with 5.3.3. The road mileage shall be no less than 15000km.

4.2.2.2 During the test, the assembly state of the battery pack shall meet the requirements of the vehicle manufacturer's technical documents. There shall be no serious faults such as the battery pack falling off, the connection failure.

4.2.3

4.2.3.2 During and after the test, there shall be no insulation failure, sealing failure and other faults in the battery swap connector.

4.2.3.3 After the simulated wading test, the insulation resistance shall meet the requirements of 5.1.4.1 in GB 18384-2020.

4.3 Component requirements
