Scope

GB/T 38784-2020 is the English-translated version of 悬空地板、踏步、步道及栈道玻璃.

GB/T 38784-2020 deals with the glass used in walking surfaces that are suspended above the ground.

Clause 1 states that the standard specifies the terms and definitions, product classification, materials, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and the packaging, marking, transport and storage of glass for suspended floors, steps, walkways and plank roads; it applies to such glass when it carries people, and it expressly does not apply to glass products such as the guard plates or the ceilings of enclosure structures.

The page shows clause 2 listing the normative references and clause 3 the terms and definitions, which are those of GB 15763.2 and GB 15763.3 together with four defined in the standard itself.

Those four are suspended floor glass, which relies on frame or point support, is installed overhead at a height of not more than 1 m and serves as the floor board; suspended stair glass, used as a step or a stair; suspended walkway and plank road glass, installed on an overhead passage that connects buildings, crosses a river or is built along a mountain and used as a pedestrian walkway; and the coefficient of slip-resistance, the ratio of tangential to vertical force at the moment the object overcomes the maximum static friction and begins to slide.

The documents it cites indicate the testing it draws on, among them GB 15763.2 for tempered glass and GB 15763.3 for laminated glass, GB/T 2680 for the light and solar transmittance of architectural glass, GB/T 5137.1-2002 for mechanical performance testing and JC/T 1050-2007 for grading anti-skid performance.

The standard was proposed by the China Building Materials Federation and falls under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Building Glass (SAC/TC255), with glass makers, special glass inspection centres and a plastics company among the drafting bodies. It was issued on 2 June 2020 and has applied since 1 April 2021.
