Scope

GB/T 37363.1-2019 is the English-translated version of 涂料中生物杀伤剂含量的测定 第1部分:异噻唑啉酮含量的测定.

This part sets out two instrumental procedures for measuring the content of isothiazolinone biocides in coatings: liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography.

Clause 1 states that it covers the principle, reagents and materials, apparatus, samples, test procedure, processing of test data, detection limits, precision and the test report, and that it applies to the determination of isothiazolinone biocide content in paints, while the determination of that content in paint films and in coating raw materials may also be carried out by reference to this part.

Clause 3 describes the principle: methanol serves as extraction solvent, the biocides are extracted by ultrasonic treatment combined with centrifugation, and quantification is by the external standard method, with retention time and selected ions used for identification in the LC-MS/MS procedure and retention time alone in the liquid chromatographic procedure; accompanying notes add that other solvents shown to be suitable may be used and that liquid chromatography here takes in both HPLC and UPLC.

Clause 4 requires reagents of analytical grade or better and grade-one water as specified in GB/T 6682-2008, and names MI, CMI, BIT, OIT and DCOIT as the isothiazolinone calibration compounds and chromatographically pure methanol as the solvent.

GB/T 3186 on sampling of paints and varnishes, GB/T 6682-2008 and the GB/T 12806, GB/T 12807 and GB/T 12808 standards on laboratory volumetric glassware are cited as normative references.

A caution in the text states that users should have hands-on experience of formal laboratory work and remain responsible for appropriate safety and health measures.

The foreword records that GB/T 37363 is divided into Part 1 on isothiazolinone content and Part 2 on diuron content and that this document is Part 1; it was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation and falls under SAC/TC5. It was issued on 2019-03-25 and has applied since 2019-07-01.

Foreword

GB/T 37363 "Determination of Biocide Content in Coatings" is divided into the following sections.

--- Part 1. Determination of isothiazolinone content;

--- Part 2. Determination of diuron content; This part is the first part of GB/T 37363.

This part is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

1 Scope

This part of GB/T 37363 specifies the determination of isothiazoline in coatings by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography.

Principles, reagents and materials, equipment, samples, test procedures, test data processing, detection limits, precision and ketone biocide content experiment report.

This section applies to the determination of the content of isothiazolinone biocides in paints. Isothiazolinones in raw materials for paint films and coatings The determination of the biocide content can also be referred to this section.

2 Normative references

The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the dated version applies to this document. For undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this document.

GB/T 3186 Paint, varnish and paint and varnish raw materials sampled

GB/T 6682-2008 Analytical laboratory water specifications and test methods

GB/T 12806-2011 laboratory glass instrument single standard line volumetric flask

GB/T 12807-1991 Laboratory glass instrument indexing pipette

GB/T 12808-2015 laboratory glass instrument single line suction tube

3 Principle

Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry. Using methanol as extraction solvent, ultrasonic extraction and centrifugation were combined to extract samples.

Isothiazolinone biocide, determined by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), with retention time and selection Ion characterization, external standard method for quantification.

Liquid Chromatography. Extraction of isothiazolinones from samples by ultrasonic extraction and centrifugation using methanol as extraction solvent The biocide is detected by liquid chromatography (LC), characterized by retention time, and quantified by external standard method.

Note 1. Other confirmed suitable solvents can also be selected as the extraction solvent.

Note 2. The liquid chromatograms in this section include high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC).

4 Reagents and materials

Unless otherwise specified, only reagents identified as analytically pure and above purity and those meeting the requirements of GB/T 6682-2008 are used in the analysis. First grade water.

4.1 Isothiazolinone calibration compounds such as MI, CMI, BIT, OIT, DCOIT

Note: CMI can also be used with known solutions.

4.2 Methanol

Chromatographically pure.
