Scope
GB/T 36955-2018 is the English-translated version of 柔性直流输电用启动电阻技术规范.
GB/T 36955-2018 is the Chinese technical specification for pre-insertion resistors, the starting resistors used in flexible DC transmission (VSC-HVDC) to limit the charging current of the voltage source converter while the converter station is energized.
It covers resistors on the AC side, placed on the network or valve side of the coupling or converter transformer, and on the DC side, at the DC bus or neutral bus.
The standard sets the conditions of use and installation, technical parameters, design and structure, type tests, routine factory tests and field tests, and the requirements for packaging, storage, installation, operation, maintenance and technical documentation.
Its annexes show typical resistor positions, design parameters and charging current waveforms. It can also be referred to for UPFC projects. It was issued on 28 December 2018 and has applied since 1 July 2019.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the conditions of use and installation conditions, technical parameters, design and structure, type test, and start-up resistance of flexible DC transmission. Factory test, field test, packaging, storage, installation and maintenance and technical information.
This standard applies to starting resistors for flexible DC transmission, including AC side starting resistors and DC side starting resistors, unified power flow controller (UPFC) engineering AC and DC side starting resistor can be referred to.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Start resistor
The flexible DC converter station does not control the resistance input during the charging process to reduce the charging current of the voltage source converter.
3.2 AC side starting resistor
A starting resistor arranged on the mesh side or the valve side of the coupling/commutation transformer according to system conditions.
Note: Refer to Appendix A for the typical position of the AC side starting resistor. The starting resistor arranged on the mesh side of the coupling/commutation transformer is called the AC network side starting power The starting resistor placed on the valve side of the coupling/commutation transformer is called the AC valve side starting resistor.
3.3 DC side starting resistor
The starting resistor is placed at the DC bus or neutral bus of the voltage source converter according to system conditions.
Note: Refer to Appendix A for the typical position of the DC side starting resistor.
3.4 Resistor module
Assembled in a single casing or jacket by series or parallel connection by a plurality of resistive elements, bonding materials and supporting materials The assembly of the terminals.
