Scope
GB/T 36495-2018 is the English-translated version of 烧结砖瓦原料物理性能试验方法.
GB/T 36495-2018 sets out laboratory methods for measuring the physical properties of the raw materials used to make sintered bricks and tiles. It covers sampling and the tests for natural moisture content, particle composition and plasticity, the last expressed through the liquid limit, the plastic limit and the plasticity index.
A further test determines the mixing water rate, the critical moisture content, the drying sensitivity coefficient and the linear drying shrinkage, and the standard closes with what the test report must contain.
Alongside the terms of GB/T 18968 it defines relative and absolute moisture content, molding moisture content and critical moisture content. Brick and tile plants and testing laboratories use it to characterise a raw material before it goes into production. It was issued on 13 July 2018 and has applied since 1 June 2019.

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the test methods for the physical properties of sintered bricks, including natural moisture content, particle composition, plasticity, and pasteurized water rate, critical moisture content, drying sensitivity coefficient and drying line shrinkage.
This standard applies to the physical properties of raw materials for sintered tile products.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions as defined in GB/T 18968 apply to this document.
3.1 Relative moisture content
Wet basis moisture content
The percentage of the ratio of the moisture (physical water) contained in the sample to the mass of the wet sample.
3.2 Absolute moisture content
Dry basis moisture content
The percentage of the ratio of the moisture (physical water) contained in the sample to the mass of the dry sample.
3.3 Liquid limit
The raw material has an upper limit moisture content (dry basis) in a plastic state, referred to as a liquid limit or a flow limit.
3.4 Plastic limit
The raw material has a lower moisture content (dry basis) in a plastic state, which is referred to as a plastic limit.
3.5 Plastic index
The difference between the liquid limit and the plastic limit.
Note: Indicates the range of moisture content when the raw material is in a plastic state.
3.6 Molding moisture content
The percentage of the ratio of the amount of water required to make the test piece to the dry mass of the test piece.
3.7 Critical moisture content
During the drying process, the test piece shrinks and the moisture content (dry basis) at the end of the line.
