Scope
GB/T 36169-2018 is the English-translated version of 绿松石 分级.
GB/T 36169-2018 sets out how polished turquoise is graded in China. It applies to natural or optimized turquoise that is polished but not set, and may be used as a reference for set stones.
The grade rests on three aspects: colour, texture and surface cleanliness, with colour classified in the HSB colour system of hue, saturation and brightness against a reference colour card.
The standard also covers how transparency, lustre and patterns are described, the grading requirements, the measurement of turquoise mass and the content of the grading certificate, and its annexes show the HSB colour solid model, the surface cleanliness levels and the common special pattern types.
Gem laboratories and traders use it together with GB/T 16552 and GB/T 16553. It was issued on 14 May 2018 and has applied since 1 December 2018.
