Scope
GB/T 35979-2018 is the English-translated version of 金属波纹管膨胀节选用、安装、使用维护技术规范.
GB/T 35979-2018 gives technical rules for selecting, installing, using and maintaining metal bellows expansion joints in all kinds of piping systems. It sets out the selection principles and typical applications for axial, lateral and combined displacement, and shows typical improper applications to avoid.
It then covers transport and storage, installation, the checks before and during the system pressure test, the precautions for installation, cleaning and pressure testing, periodic inspection during use, what to do when a piping system with expansion joints is modified, and final confirmation.
It defines installation, axial, lateral, angular and rated displacement, and restrained and unrestrained expansion joints, and its annexes give the graphic symbols and the spacing of guides for unrestrained axial joints.
It works alongside GB/T 35990-2018. It was issued on 6 February 2018 and has applied since 1 September 2018.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the typical application of metal bellows expansion joints, transportation, storage, installation, use and maintenance, installation of metal bellows expansion Section of the pipeline system to modify or change matters and confirmations.
This standard applies to all kinds of piping systems installed with metal bellows expansion joints (hereinafter referred to as expansion joints).
2 Normative references
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only dated versions apply to this document. For undated references, the latest version (including all amendments) applies to this document.
GB/T 35990-2018 Metal bellows expansion joints for pressure piping
3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 35990-2018 and the following apply to this document.
3.1 Installation
The process of assembling an expansion joint to a designated location on a piping system in accordance with the requirements of the engineering design and in accordance with the installation instructions, including the system All on-site inspections and tests required by the specification.
3.2 Axial displacement
The dimension along the axis of the expansion joint.
Note: The shortened dimension is called axial compression displacement, and the extension dimension is called axial tension displacement.
3.3 Lateral displacement
The relative displacement of the ends of the expansion joint in the direction perpendicular to its axis.
3.4 Angular displacement
The two ends of the expansion joint rotate relative to each other, so that the axis of the expansion joint changes from the initial straight line to the arc line, and the variation angle of the included angle between the two ends of the expansion joint.
3.5 Rated displacement
The maximum amount of displacement that the expansion joint can absorb (axial tension displacement, axial compression displacement, lateral displacement, angular displacement, or any resultant displacement).
Note: This value varies with different sizes, waveforms, and types of expansion joints, as specified by the manufacturer.
3.6 Unconstrained expansion joints
The expansion joint that cannot withstand the pressure thrust itself.
3.7 Constrained expansion joints
An expansion joint that can withstand pressure thrust (with levers, hinges, or other force members) on its own.
