Scope
GB/T 35898-2018 is the English-translated version of 条斑紫菜 全浮动筏式栽培技术规范.
GB/T 35898-2018 sets out how to grow the red seaweed Pyropia yezoensis, known as nori or laver, on fully floating rafts. In this method a frame is anchored by a pile system, the cultivation nets hang horizontally in it and the whole rig floats at the sea surface, so the nets can be lifted out to dry by hand.
The standard defines the method and gives the criteria for choosing the sea area: lowest tide level above 5 m, water quality to GB 3097, salinity of 20 to 30, total nitrogen of at least 200 mg/m³ and current speeds of 0.3 to 0.5 m/s.
It also covers the layout of the rafts, cultivation and harvesting. Seaweed farmers and fisheries extension services use it. It was issued on 6 February 2018 and has applied since 1 September 2018.
