Scope

GB/T 35311-2026 is the English-translated version of 中文新闻图片内容描述元数据规范.

GB/T 35311-2026 is the Chinese national metadata specification for describing the content of Chinese news images.

It sets a four-layer framework - physical, logical, content and theme - and defines the element attributes mainly at the logical, content and theme layers: image identifier and type, title and caption, creator, place of creation and image source, and an AIGC identifier with sub-elements for AIGC status, visible and implicit labelling, model name and prompt.

The content layer covers the people in the picture, by name, number, age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, traits and body parts, and shooting features such as perspective, main direction, background, environment, light source direction, hue and tonal range; the theme layer covers topic, scenario, incident, special topic and classification.

It replaces GB/T 35311-2017, was issued on 30 April 2026 and applies from 1 November 2026.

This document establishes a hierarchical framework for Chinese news image metadata, dividing image metadata into physical, logical, content, and thematic layers.

Four levels. The hierarchical framework of Chinese news image metadata is shown in Figure 1.

This framework embodies a progressive relationship from technical information to semantic information, and from concrete to abstract. The meanings of each layer are as follows.

--Physical layer. Used to record key technical background information during image generation, such as shooting equipment and parameters, basic file attributes, and generation process.

Time, etc., can support authenticity traceability, quality assessment and cross-system transmission.

This document defines the overall framework, metadata elements, and attributes for Chinese news image content description metadata, describing Chinese news... The management and exchange of image information, visual content information, and semantic information mainly involves metadata element attributes at the logical layer, content layer, and theme layer. definition.
