Scope

GB/T 34564.2-2017 is the English-translated version of 冷作模具钢 第2部分:火焰淬火钢.

Part 2 of China's national standard for cold work die steel, covering the flame quenchable grades. It specifies the composition, dimensions, shape, weight, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and packaging, marking and quality certificate, and it applies to hot-rolled, forged and machined product. Flame quenching is what makes a very large die possible. A press tool for a car body panel can weigh several tonnes and measure metres across, and there is no furnace that will take it, no quench tank that will not distort it, and no economic case for either. Flame quenching hardens only the working surface: an oxy-fuel torch traverses the profile, heating a shallow layer above its transformation temperature, and a water spray follows a fixed distance behind. The result is a hard wearing surface on a tough unhardened body, with the bulk of the die never having moved. The steel has to be formulated for it - hardenable enough to transform in a thin layer at high cooling rate, stable enough not to crack behind the torch.

GB/T 34564 provisions of this part flame quenching cold work die steel content, size, shape, weight, technical requirements, test Method, inspection rules, packaging, marking and quality certificate. This section applies to flame quenching cold work die steel hot-rolled, forging and machining delivery of steel. This section provides the grades and chemical composition also applies to ingots, billets and their products.
