Scope
GB/T 34198-2017 is the English-translated version of 起重机用钢丝绳.
GB/T 34198-2017 specifies the categories, order content, material, technical requirements, inspection, testing, methods of acceptance, packaging, marking and quality certificate of smooth or galvanized crane wire ropes of different structures from 6 mm to 70 mm in diameter, and also their selection, maintenance, installation, inspection and scrapping.
Clause 1 states that it applies to the wire ropes of the bridge cranes and jib cranes defined in GB/T 20776.
Clause 2 cites GB/T 228.1, GB/T 238, GB/T 239.1, GB/T 1839, GB/T 2104, GB/T 5972, GB/T 8170, GB/T 8358, GB/T 8706, GB/T 20776, GB/T 21965, GB/T 24811.1, YB/T 4182, YB/T 4452, NB/SH/T 0387 and SH/T 0469-1994, and clause 3 takes its terms and definitions from GB/T 8706.
Clause 4 sorts the ropes by the state of the wire surface into smooth and galvanized wire ropes, by the shape of the strand into round strand ropes, compacted strand ropes and triangular strand ropes, and by the type of core into fiber core and steel core ropes, and refers the classification by category to GB/T 8706 and to Appendix A; the sentence about structures not listed there, which supplier and purchaser are to agree between themselves, is where the draft breaks off.
The contents list clause 5 order content, clause 6 wire rope material, clause 7 wire rope technical requirements, clause 8 wire rope inspection, clause 9 wire rope test, clause 10 methods of acceptance, clause 11 packaging, marking and quality certificate and clause 12 rope selection, maintenance, installation, inspection and scrap.
Four normative appendices close the standard, giving the rope categories with their typical structures and diameter ranges, the diameter tolerance, zinc layer weight, one-way torsion and repeated bending requirements for the steel wire before twisting, the zinc weight, unidirectional torsion and repeated bending requirements for the wire unwound from the rope, and a control table of typical structure, diameter, reference weight and breaking tension by strength level.
The foreword says the standard was proposed by the China Iron and Steel Association and is held by the National Standardization Technical Committee on Steel (SAC/TC183).

1 Scope
This standard specifies the diameter of 6mm ~ 70mm different structures of smooth or galvanized crane wire rope classification, ordering content, material Materials, technical requirements, inspection, testing, inspection methods, packaging, marking and quality certificates and selection, maintenance, maintenance, installation, inspection and scrap.
This standard applies to the GB/T 20776 defined in the bridge cranes and jib crane wire rope.

4 Categories
4.1 wire rope according to the state of the wire surface is divided into smooth wire rope and galvanized steel wire rope.
4.2 Rope according to the shape of the strand is divided into round ropes, compacted strands of wire rope and triangular wire rope.
4.3 Rope according to the type of core is divided into fiber core rope and steel core rope.
4.4 rope classification by category should be consistent with the provisions of GB/T 8706, its category, the typical structure and diameter range in Appendix A.
