Scope
GB/T 32561.5-2022 is the English-translated version of 红外光学硫系玻璃测试方法 第5部分:应力双折射.
GB/T 32561.5-2022 is Part 5 of GB/T 32561 and describes how the stress birefringence of infrared optical chalcogenide glass is measured. It covers the test principle, the test conditions, the instruments, the samples, the test procedure and the processing of the data, and the measurement is made by the quarter-wave plate method.
It defines stress birefringence, the optical path difference between the two polarized beams and infrared optical chalcogenide glass itself, a glass formed from sulfur, selenium or tellurium combined with elements such as germanium, gallium, arsenic and antimony.
It applies to the testing of infrared optical chalcogenide glass, and a note says other infrared optical glasses may use it for reference. It cites GB/T 36265-2018. It was issued on 14 October 2022 and has applied since 1 May 2023.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" drafted.
This document is part 5 of GB/T 32561 "Infrared Optical Chalcogenide Glass Test Methods". GB/T 32561 has issued the following part.
--- Part 1: Uniformity;
--- Part 2: Stripe degree;
--- Part 3: Impurities;
--- Part 4: Optical absorption coefficient;
--- Part 5: Stress birefringence.
Introduction
Infrared optical chalcogenide glass has a wide range of applications in thermal imaging, infrared sensing, nonlinear devices, phase change storage, photovoltaics and other fields. its products During production, sale and use, it is necessary to obtain its performance parameters with standardized measurement methods. Unify the measurement methods of various optical and electrical parameters, Establish the best order for the production, sales, and use of infrared optical chalcogenide glass to ensure the comparability and reproducibility of test results, so as to promote relevant co-benefits of the parties. GB/T 32561 "Infrared Optical Chalcogenide Glass Test Method" describes the performance parameters of infrared optical chalcogenide glass The measurement method is intended to consist of 5 parts.
--- Part 1: Uniformity. The purpose is to specify a test method for the internal uniformity of infrared optical chalcogenide glasses.
--- Part 2: Stripe degree. The purpose is to specify a test method for the degree of internal striation of infrared optical chalcogenide glasses.
--- Part 3: Impurities. The purpose is to specify a test method for internal impurities in infrared optical chalcogenide glasses.
--- Part 4: Optical absorption coefficient. The purpose is to specify a test method for the optical absorption coefficient of infrared optical chalcogenide glasses.
--- Part 5: Stress birefringence. The purpose is to specify a test method for the stress birefringence of infrared optical chalcogenide glasses.
The five parts of the GB/T 32561 series of standards correspond to the five important performance parameters of infrared optical chalcogenide glass during use. Number test method.
This document is part 5 of GB/T 32561, which is aimed at the test method for stress birefringence of infrared chalcogenide glasses.
Stress birefringence is used to characterize the refractive index change of light waves with different polarization directions when there is stress inside the chalcogenide glass.
The key technical indicators that glass manufacturers must provide when producing and selling products. This document is in the first 4 sections (Uniformity, Streaks, Miscellaneous Quantitative testing and characterization of the internal stress of chalcogenide glass products on the basis of quality, light absorption coefficient, etc., to guide research Inspection and acceptance of chalcogenide glass products by the manufacturing, production and use departments to promote the stability and consistency of product quality.
1 Scope
This document describes the test principle, test conditions, instruments, samples, test procedures and measurement of stress birefringence of infrared optical chalcogenide glasses. Test methods such as data processing.
This document applies to the testing of stress birefringence of infrared optical chalcogenide glasses.
Note: Other infrared optical glasses can be used for reference.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Stress birefringence
Due to the existence of stress in the glass, when a beam of polarized light is incident perpendicular to the glass surface, the vibrational vibrations decomposed along the two principal stress directions in the glass Two beams of polarized light whose moving directions are perpendicular to each other will have different propagation velocities, that is, have different refractive indices. [Source: GB/T 7962.5-2010, 3.1, with modifications]
Note: Infrared optical chalcogenide glass is an isotropic material. If there is stress in the glass, optical anisotropy will appear.
3.2 Optical path difference
When polarized light passes through a stressed glass, birefringence occurs, and the polarized light decomposed along the two principal stress directions in the glass propagates in the glass.
Due to the different broadcasting speeds, the optical paths of the two polarized lights after passing through the glass are not equal, and the difference between the optical paths between the two polarized lights. [Source: GB/T 7962.5-2010, 3.2, with modifications]
Note: The optical path difference in this document refers specifically to the optical path difference between two beams of light caused by stress birefringence.
3.3 Infrared optical chalcogenide glass
It is formed by combining the three elements S, Se, Te of group VIA in the periodic table with other metal elements such as Ge, Ga, As, Sb, etc. an infrared glass.
Note: The infrared transmission range can exceed 20 µm.
4 Principles
The stress existing in the infrared optical chalcogenide glass will lead to optical anisotropy, which is measured by the quarter-wave plate method, and the polarized light passes through the sample.
