Scope
GB/T 31748-2015 is the English-translated version of 茶鲜叶处理要求.
GB/T 31748-2015 specifies the terms and definitions for the fresh leaves of tea, the requirements for them, and their transport and processing. Clause 1 states that it applies to the raw material for tea processing in all tea producing areas nationwide, and no exclusion is stated.
Clause 3 defines eight terms, beginning with fresh leaves, the raw material picked from the shoots of suitable tea varieties, Camellia sinensis (L.)
Kuntze, for the processing of all types of tea; tenderness, the degree of growth and development of the tea shoots; evenness, the degree of uniformity of the composition of the fresh leaf shoots; and clarity, given with the English word neatness, the amount of tea inclusions such as tea fruit and old leaves and of non-tea inclusions present in the fresh leaves.
The same clause defines freshness as the degree to which picked fresh leaves retain their original chemical and physical properties, mechanical damage as the crushing and tissue damage of shoots caused by mechanical force, deterioration as the reddening of buds, leaves and tender stems, or the appearance of acid gas and fermentation odour, when fresh leaves are handled improperly after picking, and rain leaves as fresh leaves picked in rainy or foggy conditions with water present on the leaf surface.
Clause 2 cites NY/T 225 and NY/T 853. The draft carries no table of contents and ends after clause 3, so the requirement clause and the transport and processing clause themselves are not visible.
The standard was proposed by the China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives and is administered by the national standardization technical committee of tea (SAC/TC339); the page places it at ICS 67.140.10 and Chinese classification X55. It was issued on 3 July 2015 and has applied since 2 November 2015.
