GB/T 30420, based on classification principles and application scenarios, provides commonly used terms in the design, production, and use of different types of sewing machines. Based on the definitions, GB/T 30420 is proposed to be divided into the following 5 parts.

1.General Terminology. The purpose is to define general terminology for sewing machinery, including the main types, products, and general characteristics of sewing machines. The terminology concerning its structure, apparatus, and performance should be clearly defined.

2.Embroidery Machine Terminology. The purpose is to define the terminology for embroidery machines within the context of sewing machinery, including commonly used terms and main product categories. The terminology for products, mechanisms, devices, control systems, operations, and pattern making should be clearly defined.

3.Terminology for Fabric Cutting Equipment. The purpose is to define the terminology for fabric cutting equipment in sewing machinery. The commonly used terms, main types, products, institutions, devices and operation terms should be clearly defined.

1 Scope

GB/T 30420.4-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the vocabulary of the parts inside a sewing machine - the feed mechanisms, the loopers and hooks, the thread take-up and tension, the presser and the trimmer, each named once so that manuals, parts lists and other standards agree. At 22,000 words. Part 4 of the series, first edition. In force from 1 May 2026. Issued on 31 October 2025, it has been in force since 1 May 2026.

This document defines the terms and definitions for the functional components of sewing equipment. This document applies to the manufacturing, research, teaching, and trade of functional components for sewing equipment.
