Scope
GB/T 28683-2025 is the English-translated version of 蝴蝶兰.
GB/T 28683-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering moth orchids grown on a sphagnum moss substrate — the production sequence, the preparation before planting, the management of the small, medium and large seedling stages with the substrate salt content checked at each, the control of the flowering period, the grades set by leaf length, leaf span and stem diameter with a ceiling on the mutation rate, and the marking, packing, storage, transport and the records kept for traceability. It replaces GB/T 28683-2012 and takes in the seedling grade standard GB/T 28684-2012, under the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. In force from 1 November 2025. Issued on 1 August 2025, it has been in force since 1 November 2025, replacing GB/T 28683-2012.

This document replaces GB/T 28683-2012 "Technical Specifications for Phalaenopsis Cultivation" and GB/T 28684-2012 "Quality Standards for Phalaenopsis Seedlings".
Compared with GB/T 28683-2012 and GB/T 28684-2012, in addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
— Changed the terms and definitions of leaf length, leaf width, leaf distance, stem thickness, small seedling, medium seedling, large seedling, small plant type, medium plant type, and large plant type (see 3.1~3.10, 2.1~2.10 of GB/T 28684-2012);
— Added the terms and definitions of mini flower type, small flower type, medium flower type, large flower type and guide root (see 3.11 to 3.15);
— Deleted the terms and definitions of seedlings and split seedlings (see 2.11 and 2.12 of GB/T 28684-2012);
— Added production procedures (see Chapter 4);
— Changed facilities and equipment (see 5.1, Chapter 3 of GB/T 28683-2012);
— Changed the preparation before planting (see 5.2~5.4, 4.1 of GB/T 28683-2012);
— Added fertilizer selection and facility disinfection (see 5.5, 5.6);
— Changed the management steps for the seedling stage, medium seedling stage, large seedling stage, stem-pulling stage, peduncle-pulling stage, bud stage, and flowering stage (See 6.1 to 6.3, 7.1 to 7.3, and 4.2 to 4.7 of GB/T 28683-2012);
— Added salt content testing for substrates of small, medium and large seedlings (see 6.1.7, 6.2.6 and 6.3.6);
— Changed the pest and disease control for small seedlings, medium seedlings and large seedlings (see 6.1.8, 6.2.7, 6.3.7, Chapter 5 of GB/T 28683-2012);
— Increased the distance between the two leaves of the bottle seedlings (see 8.1.2.1);
— Deleted the seedling specifications and grades (see 3.2.2.1 of GB/T 28684-2012);
— Added the upper limit of mutation rate at different seedling stages (see 8.1.2.1 to 8.1.2.4);
— Added flowering plant quality grade (see 8.1.2.5);
— Changed the storage and transportation requirements (see 9.3, Chapter 7 of GB/T 28683-2012, and 6.3 of GB/T 28684-2012);
