Scope

GB/T 28524-2012 is the English-translated version of 媒体网关控制协议(MGCP).

GB/T 28524-2012 fixes the requirements for the Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) used for communication between a media gateway and a media gateway controller or softswitch device, covering the call model, the commands, the protocol message format, the sending of protocol requests, state and fault switchover and out-of-order handling, the protocol security requirements, the heartbeat mechanism and the packages.

Clause 1 states that it applies to media gateways, including IP trunking media gateways, ATM trunk media gateways, integrated access media gateways, integrated access devices and intelligent terminals such as IP phones that support MGCP, and to media gateway control devices and softswitch equipment.

The body is arranged as Scope, Normative references, Terms and definitions and abbreviations, Call Model, Command, protocol message format, protocol transfer request, status and fault switching and out of order, Protocol security requirements, heartbeat mechanism and package.

The call model clause covers endpoints and their identification, calls and connections, resource management and connection properties, local connections, MGC naming, the DigitMap, packages, and events and signals, while the command clause specifies the EndpointConfiguration, NotificationRequest, Notify, CreateConnection, ModifyConnection, DeleteConnection, AuditEndpoint, AuditConnection and RestartInProgress commands together with the response and error codes and the restart cause values.

The security clause covers the carriage of MGCP protocol messages over IPsec and an authentication mechanism, both marked optional, and the protection of media connections, while the heartbeat mechanism of clause 10 is also marked optional.

Normative Appendix A gives the ABNF syntax of the protocol and normative Appendix B the basic packages, among them the basic media, DTMF, MF, trunk circuit, analog line, cordless phone, RTP, network access server, notification server and script packages; the informative annexes cover operating requirements for media gateways and media resource servers, the communication processes between media gateway and media gateway controller, the authentication mechanism, the fax package and the permanent event package.

Clause 2 cites YDN065, IETF RFC 1034, IETF RFC 2821, IETF RFC 4301, IETF RFC 4302 (2005), IETF RFC 4303 (2005), IETF RFC 4566 and IETF RFC 5234. It was issued on 2012-06-29 and has applied since 2012-10-01.
